Draver Park ribbon cutting to celebrate major park improvements set in Big Bay

BIG BAY — Powell Township invites residents, partners and visitors to celebrate the completion of significant renovations at Draver Park with a public ribbon-cutting ceremony from 1-1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, with a reception afterward for guests to stay and enjoy the park.The ceremony will take place at Draver Park in Big Bay and is open to all.

This milestone marks the completion of a multi-year effort to enhance Draver Park as a welcoming, accessible and year-round community gathering space. The project reflects a strong commitment to recreation, accessibility and quality of life in Big Bay.

The improvements were made possible through the generous support and partnership of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources SPARK Grant Program, Eagle Mine, and Powell Township, and its continued commitment to long-term park maintenance and stewardship. The Township extends sincere appreciation to the contractors, professional designers and volunteers whose expertise and dedication helped bring the Draver Park vision to fruition.

Project upgrades include new ADA-accessible sidewalks and accessibility improvements, a four-season concession and restroom facility serving both park users and the Big Bay Pathway, electrical upgrades and windscreen enhancements to the pavilion, an ADA-accessible trail that circumnavigates the park and new exercise and playground equipment designed for all ages and abilities.

Following the brief ceremony, attendees are encouraged to remain at the park to explore the new amenities, connect with neighbors, and celebrate this important investment in the Big Bay community.
