County party rescinds LaFave endorsement
IRONWOOD — The Gogebic County Republican Party Tuesday rescinded its endorsement of Beau LaFave in the 38th District Senate race.
“Our bylaws are clear: the party does not endorse in races where there are two viable candidates and no incumbent,” said county GOP Chair Joe Cayer. “Dave Prestin is also running and is well qualified. The endorsement was made in haste and is not consistent with our bylaws.”
Looking ahead, Cayer emphasized the importance of a competitive and issues-focused primary.
“The Gogebic County GOP looks forward to a primary election centered on the issues that matter most to Upper Peninsula residents, the cost of living, the challenges of working and running a business in Michigan, and the future of our local communities,” he said. “We encourage voters to do their homework, get to know the candidates and support the individual who has the experience to best represent the needs and priorities of U.P. families and businesses.”
The 38th Senate District seat is open, as current state Sen. Ed McBroom, R-Waucedah Township, is term-limited.
