MARQUETTE – The Build a Dream Playground group, in preparation for the June construction of a playground at the Mattson Lower Harbor Park, will present their plans to the Marquette City Commission tonight. There will also be a presentation by the city’s Winter Cities planning authority. Marquette will host the Winter Cities Forum next February.

MARQUETTE – Marquette’s fire department responded to a general alarm at 4:04 yesterday afternoon when a blaze broke out in a mattress of a bedroom at the home of Edward L. Bigger Jr., 123 E. Kaye Ave. Firemen used the booster hoses of the Nos. 2 (1,000-gallon) and 4 (750-gallon) pumpers to put out the flames, They also used the smoke ejector (a portable fan) to clear the house of smoke. Damage reportedly was confined to the mattress itself. However, some water damage was reported.
