MARQUETTE – In the catacomb-like basement of the old Rosewood building on South Front Street, massive wooden timbers, recently hewn from an Upper Peninsula forest, rise from hydraulic jacks. The jack-and-timber system supports three floors of historical structure overhead, while construction workers cut away falling stone foundation walls with diamond-bit chain saws. Laborers dig new footings; masons tool mortar joints on a new brick arch in what will become a nightclub.

ISHPEMING – A one-way traffic system will be placed in effect Monday, April 11, Frank Gerstenecker, city manager, and Frank Sarvello, chief of police, announced today. The new system, presented to the Ishpeming City commission Oct. 6, 1965, will be inaugurated for a 90-day trial period. Although the one-way street system is not a new idea in other cities, this marks the first time that such a program will be instituted here.
