Michigan Tech adds Data Science Department in College of Computing
HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech University will officially launch a new Department of Data Science on July 1 within its College of Computing, creating a dedicated academic home for one of the country’s fastest-growing fields.
The new department will house Michigan Tech’s bachelor’s and master’s programs in data science, along with its master’s in health informatics and is expected to support a new bachelor’s program in artificial intelligence beginning in fall 2026.
The move better aligns resources with growing student and employer demand in data science, AI and applied computing while giving students and faculty a clearer identity and stronger research community. Michigan Tech’s continued expansion adds to the talent pipeline in high-demand fields tied to the future of industry, health and technology.
