Legion poppies to start blooming
MARQUETTE — The Richard M. Jopling Unit 44 of the American Legion Auxiliary will distribute memorial poppies throughout the month of May in honor of fallen service members and in support of veterans and their families.
Poppies will be available May 8-10 during the Mother’s Day Craft Show at the Superior Dome in Marquette. Additional distributions will take place on May 23 at Super One Foods and Tadych’s Marketplace Foods. Community members may also find poppies throughout May at select Marquette-area businesses featuring Auxiliary “poppy boots.”
Donations received through poppy distribution directly support local veterans, active-duty military members, and their families. Between April 2025 and March 2026, Unit 44 used the community’s donations of over $6,500 to help local veterans with Utility bills, firewood, medical supplies, food and more.
If you would like to make a donation, find us at one of the locations above, or, it can be dropped off/mailed to American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 44, 700 W. Bluff St., Marquette, MI 49855.
The American Legion Auxiliary invites the public to wear a red poppy as a symbol of remembrance and gratitude for those who have served. “We must never forget.”
