Daggett man sentenced to 23 months to 5 years for fleeing and eluding

MENOMINEE — Travis Scott Thiry, 44, of Daggett, was sentenced to 23 months to 5 years in prison for fleeing and eluding a police officer, second degree, announced Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey T. Rogg. The prison sentence was handed down on April 14 by the Honorable Christopher S. Ninomiya, in the 41st Circuit Court.

According to publicly-filed documents and information presented in court, on Oct. 29, 2024, a deputy from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a silver 2005 Dodge Ram “dually” pickup truck on Menominee County Road 358 in Lake Township.

According to documents, the vehicle accelerated to speeds of 105-110 miles per hour for over a mile and a half, with its headlights extinguished. The operator, identified as Thiry, fled on foot and was arrested.

“Mr. Thiry has 15 prior criminal convictions going back to 1999,” said Rogg. “The innocent citizens of Menominee County are at risk because this man refuses to stop driving in willful and wanton disregard for the safety of others,” continued Rogg.

“Judge Ninomiya sent a strong message of deterrence with this prison sentence today,” said Rogg.

secutor Rogg also noted that Thiry faces additional, unrelated felony charges and will be brought back to Menominee from the Michigan Department of Corrections to face them at a future date.
