Copper Country 100 Women Who Care support Pewabic Street Community Garden

HANCOCK — On March 25, the Copper Country 100 Women Who Care held their quarterly giving meeting, where over 60 women came together to support Pewabic Street Community Garden with donations totaling $7,000.

Copper Country 100 Women Who Care is part of a nationwide philanthropic movement that brings together women committed to making a direct and meaningful impact in their communities. The concept is simple: members meet four times yearly, commit to donating $100 per meeting, and collectively fund a nonprofit organization serving Baraga, Houghton, or Keweenaw counties that is selected by a majority vote.

On April 15, the donation was delivered to Elena Busova and Kathie Joyce of PSCG. To quote Busova: “I am so thankful for this generous donation from Copper Country 100 Women Who Care. Most of this donation will go toward our outreach efforts for young kids who are elementary school age and younger.”

Three charities were presented at the meeting, and the PSCG, nominated by Kathie Joyce, was selected as the recipient. Joyce is a passionate and active volunteer with PSCG, to quote Kathie:

“This wonderful contribution will allow us to expand the size of the organization as well as increase our educational outreach to children,” said Joyce. “We currently have 65 members in the organization and we’d like to double that number.”

The garden has been in the Houghton community for 20 years.

The next giving meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20 at The Lodge Luxury Suites, 101 Front St., Hancock, followed by a social with appetizers and refreshments. Women of all backgrounds and ages wanting to join a collective effort to strengthen the Copper Country community are encouraged to join.
