NEGAUNEE – The 32nd Annual Negaunee Invitational Basketball Tournament got underway Friday night at Negaunee’s Memorial Gymnasium. North Country Engineering of Negaunee must have drawn a good game plan as it defeated the Westwood Rejects of Ishpeming, 71-60, in Class EE. North Country’s Steve Heliin led his team with 13 points, while teammates Pete Borlace and Jeff Poutanen pitched in 12 apiece. Dan Etelamaki pumped in game-high 19 points for the Rejects. Dean Schultz added 12. In Class DD action, Twin City Dodge of Negaunee drove past Gwinn Crossroads Mini-Mart, 76-61. Terry Kainulainen led Twin City Dodge with 18 points, while teammate Hodge LaForest added 17. Archie Sherbinow (14) and Darren Sinnaeve (13) scored a combined 27 for Mini-mart. Also, Bay Chiropractic of Schaffer straightened out the Lutheran Brotherhood of Ishpeming by a score of 67-57 in Class D play. Bay Chiropractic’s Jeff Willa tallied 17 points for the winters; Rod Rochon chipped in 13. Scott Etelamaki paced Lutheran brotherhood with a game-high 2- points. Craig Etelamaki had 11.

March 23, 1966 – ISHPEMING – Children who will attend kindergarten in the Ishpeming public schools next year will be enrolled from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, W.C. Peterson, superintendent of schools, announced today. The enrollment schedule follows: children in the Cleveland and Central School areas, at Central School; children in Barnum, Junction and Salisbury locations and the area served by the Grammar School, at the Grammar School; children in Palms Book and Eighth Additions, at the Birchview School; children living south of U.S. 41 in the Phelps School area, at the Phelps school. Parents are reminded that children must be five years of age before Dec. 1, 1966, in order to attend school next year. Birth certificates should be presented at the time of registration. Blanks will be given parents at the time of registration to be filled out by the family doctor after a physical examination.
