HOUGHTON — Orbion Space Technology, a Houghton-based satellite propulsion manufacturer and longtime client of MTEC SmartZone, has been acquired by York Space Systems, a major aerospace manufacturer supporting national security and commercial satellite missions.

This milestone signifies how early-stage programs, entrepreneurial support and access to investment capital can help transform an idea into a company operating at the forefront of the global space supply chain.

Founded in Houghton in 2016, Orbion designs and manufactures electric propulsion systems used to maneuver satellites in orbit. The company began working with MTEC SmartZone through its Transformative Technologies program during its earliest stages, receiving assistance with business planning, investment connections, and access to manufacturing space in Houghton’s Powerhouse facility.

York Space Systems’ acquisition brings Orbion’s propulsion technology into its vertically integrated spacecraft manufacturing ecosystem while allowing Orbion to continue operating in Houghton and supporting customers across the global space industry.
