Historical society receives upgrade grant
MANISTIQUE — Schoolcraft County Historical Society, a member organization of Historical Society of Michigan, is pleased to announce they are a recipient of a $2,500 grant to upgrade the gas furnace in their archive building to a high-efficiency furnace.
Constructed in 2005, the archive building houses the county’s artifact collections and functions as a research library. The 30+-year-old furnace has begun to show signs of failure and is too loud for space; the upgrade will maintain the appropriate environmental conditions for artifact storage and invest in the building’s future.
Jane Kopecky, SCHS curator, said, “This is extremely helpful to our operations, collection care, and overall well-being now that we no longer have to worry about furnace failure in the future. We are grateful to the Historical Society of Michigan and honored and fortunate to be one of 61 member organizations awarded this beneficial Michigan History Alliance® grant.”
