Baraga resident named to state board

BARAGA — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has announced appointments to the state boards and commissions including the Michigan Veterans’ Trust Fund Board of Trustees.

Named to that panel was Rodney Loonsfoot, of Baraga, who serves as a Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Council member.

He is the tribal veteran’s representative for the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and a veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Michigan National Guard.

Loonsfoot is a national vice commander of National American Indian Veterans, Inc. He will be reappointed to represent the National American Indian Veterans organization for a term commencing March 19, 2026 and expiring Feb. 25, 2029.
