Western Reserve loss to be detailed
MARQUETTE — Dan Fountain presents “The Loss of the Western Reserve” for the March Maritime History on Tap at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the Ore Dock Brewing Company.
In the fall of 1892, shipping magnate Peter Minch invited his family on a pleasure cruise up the Great Lakes aboard his newest, safest vessel. Little did he dream that none of them would return. The excursion made it as far as Lake Superior, where the steamer, the Western Reserve, sank suddenly.
Dan Fountain tells the tale of the sinking, the sole survivor, and the 21st century discovery of this long-lost shipwreck. Tickets are available at the door. This Marquette Maritime Museum program is sponsored in part by the Ore Dock Brewing Company and from a grant by Upper Michigan Energies Resources – WE Foundation.
