Michigan Nurses Association endorses Benson for governor

MARQUETTE — The Michigan Nurses Association, the largest union and professional association for registered nurses and healthcare professionals in the state, has endorsed Jocelyn Benson in the race for Michigan governor.

Throughout her career, Benson has shown a commitment to protecting democracy. She is dedicated to improving conditions for nurses, healthcare professionals, and working people everywhere, and has a health care plan that will advance accessibility and affordability for Michiganders, a MNA press release states.

“Jocelyn Benson has proven she won’t fold under pressure. When powerful interests push, she pushes back,” said Aaron McCormick, RN, MNA president. “As Secretary of State, she’s expanded access to the ballot for Michiganders across this state. And she’s shown a real willingness to listen to nurses and healthcare professionals about the challenges we’re facing. That kind of leadership matters.”

During Benson’s time as secretary of state, she introduced policy changes to protect her employees’ time and prevent unpredictable levels of overtime, not unlike MNA’s legislative efforts to end the excessive use of mandatory nurse overtime in hospitals, the press release stated.

Starting at $3.23/week.
