IRONWOOD — Copper Peak, the world’s largest artificial ski jumping hill, has launched a new fundraising campaign aimed at renovating the historic structure to expand its role as a year-round destination for the western Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin.

The campaign invites supporters, ski jumping enthusiasts, and lovers of the Upper Peninsula and the region to directly invest in the future of Copper Peak by supporting landing mat sections that will be installed on the hill. Landing mats are an innovative plastic surface that allows ski jumpers to use the hill year-round, without the need for snow. This surface will allow Copper Peak to hold competitions and practices throughout the summer months, bringing tourists from around the world to the region.

An economic impact report conducted by UPTRA, Tunheim, and the College of Business at Michigan Tech University found that Copper Peak will generate a total economic output of $14.9 million within the first year of operation and $359 million to the region within the first five years of operation, strengthening the local economy and positioning the U.P. as an international travel destination.

“To put it simply, having a renovated Copper Peak is not only a game changer for the U.P., but for the entire sport of ski jumping,” said Bob Jacquart, president of Copper Peak. “This campaign allows the world to become part of our future and have a lasting impact that will be visible for generations to come.”

Jacquart’s sentiments are echoed by Sandro Pertile, FIS ski jumping race director, who notes, “Copper Peak will be the biggest hill with plastic in the world and the biggest facility in North America, which will create opportunities not only for the American athletes, but athletes from around the world.”

Supporters can participate at a variety of giving levels, with opportunities for public recognition and exclusive experiences tied to the campaign. Every contribution helps to strengthen Copper Peak’s ability to advance the sport of ski jumping and serve as a cultural landmark, economic driver, and source of pride for the Upper Peninsula, Michigan, Wisconsin and the entire region.
