Young trappers workshop set

HERMANSVILLE – Fun and free prizes for the youngsters attending the 21st Annual Young Trappers Workshop in Hermansville, Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at the Community Center – W5480 1st St., Hermansville. Doors open at 8 a.m.

Besides the fun and prizes this event strives to impart as much learning as possible. Kids can examine, touch and feel tanned furs and try to guess the name of the corresponding animal. They can view the skull display and try to match it to the correct furbearer by pressing a button to light up the right answer.

Free trapping magazines and literature are available. But the real learning takes place at the demonstrations by expert trappers: John Gunville – 58 years of experience, Jeremy Lundin – 40 years of experience and Jim Fornetti over 20 years of experience. They will be covering raccoons, mink, muskrats, squirrels and weasels, which are also called ermine.

And there are likely to be 50 or so experienced trappers in the audience, many of whom would be willing to sit down with a kid or adult seeking deeper knowledge on trapping a specific animal. Just go to the front desk and ask if there is anyone present that might be able to help with beaver, coyote, bobcat or any other animal you would like to target.

Starting at $3.23/week.
