ISHPEMING — The city of Ishpeming and two local hospitals are cooperating on a paramedic training program aimed at saving more West End Lives. The 14-month paramedic training program for 21 local emergency medical technicians and EMT specialists is expected to begin in February, said Ishpeming City Manager John Korhonen. While final contact details are still being worked out, the Ishpeming City Council last week approved a letter of understanding so classes can begin. Bell has offered to provide classroom space, enrollment in outside classes for advanced cardiac life support and first trauma care, a clinical coordinator, and 100 hours of classroom instructors using hospital doctors and emergency room coordinator Liz Siivola. MGH is offering clinical support on-the-job training with paramedics, teaching supplies, and copying and printing services.
