MARQUETTE — Although Marquette residents believe the weather man was “taking it out” on them during the two day storm this week, they were really fortunate, compared to other upper peninsula cities. The cold wind which whipped snow through streets here and made driving difficult and walking a chore struck with more violence in the copper country Escanaba, Iron Mountain, Sault Ste. Marie and Menominee. Street crews in those cities were forced to abandon their uneven battle and retire to the safety of warehouses until the blow subsided. In Marquette plows quickly cleaned up the main streets and sidewalks and traffic was unimpeded yesterday.
