MARQUETT E — New City Manager Gerald R. Peterson got a true taste of the Upper Peninsula his first week on the job. Some 15 inches of snow blanketed the city Sunday through Tuesday, and his first public meeting was about ice. Peterson, who hails from McHenry, Ill., jumped right into the frying pan, so to speak, when he toured Lakeview Arena Tuesday and later that night heard comments in a public work session on the future of ice sports and ice facilities in Marquette. Welcome to life in the U.P. Actually, Peterson said snow, along with the natural beauty of the area and the rural location, are what lured him to Marquette.
MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library Board of Trustees has accepted as a gift from the family of the Late Mrs. J. W. Adriance of Marquette, a 66 by 150-foot parcel adjoining the library property on the west. The property contains a two-story residential structure (117 W. Ridge St.) now occupied by two families. The gift was accepted by the trustees in memory of Mrs. Adriance (nee Martha Bacon Clark).
