MARQUETTE — Effective December 30 the “little merchant” system of distributing the Mining Journal by its carrier boys was established as a means of obtaining more satisfactory and efficient delivery of the papers and also to increase the carriers’ weekly earnings an average of 20 per cent. Under the “little merchant” plan. Which has been adopted by most of the daily newspapers in the country, each carrier is actually in business for himself. He buys the papers for his route direct from the Mining Journal pays the Mining Journal for them weekly, and collects from his subscribers every Saturday morning. Under this system the carrier boy assumes all responsibility, not only for the delivery of papers to his subscribers, but for the collection of accounts. The carriers will make their first collections under this plan tomorrow morning.
