MARQUETTE — Did you know 375 megawatts of solar-powered electricity is permitted to be built in the Upper Peninsula by 2028? The rapidly changing energy system of the U.P. powers our homes and businesses. Where does it come from, Wisconsin or Michigan? Why does it cost so much? Why are there 19 electric utilities in the 15 counties of the UP?

Please join the Laughing Whitefish Bird Alliance and presenter Jenn Hill to be part of the conversation about where our power comes from and what you can do about costs and reliable, resilient energy for our region. The presentation will take place in the Community Room at Peter White Public Library in Marquette at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Jenn Hill has worked on U.P. energy issues since 2014, when the Presque Isle Power Plant threatened to shut down and the propane prices spiked. She served as Marquette City commissioner, Marquette mayor pro tem and state representative Michigan House District 109 from 2018-24. She earned a master’s degree in environmental planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is the third generation of her family to fish in the Upper Peninsula. Jenn has loved birding since age 7, when a male ring-necked pheasant erupted out of the snow immediately in front of her, knocking her onto her back in the snow.
