Free dental care offered
IRON MOUNTAIN — For the 20th consecutive year, on Saturday, Feb. 7, The John Fornetti Dental Center will host “Dentistry from the Heart,” an annual community outreach event that both the public and the dental office eagerly anticipate each year.
“Dentistry from the Heart” offers adults age 18 and older the opportunity to receive one complementary dental service – either a cleaning, filling or extraction – at absolutely no out-of-pocket cost. For individuals who struggle to afford dental care, the event goes far beyond treating immediate dental concerns.
“It’s compassion in action, giving hope in real time,” said dental center owner, Dr. John Fornetti, “and allows our team to provide the public access to essential dental care, aiming to improve the overall health of those in our community and beyond.” Fornetti says the services provided during the event typically range from $100 to $400 or more. For those feeling trapped between dental health issues and financial strains, this event is an opportunity to give back to those who need it most. “Dental pain can be overwhelming,” said Fornetti, “and providing relief this way to the community is one of the most impactful expressions of why we do what we do.”
The program runs 8 a.m.-3 p.m. CST, and operates on a “first come, first serve” basis; there are no advance bookings for appointments. In past years, the dental center has served over 100 patients during the event hours. While a warming shelter is usually provided, it is recommended that the public monitor the weather and dress accordingly in case the waiting line extends outside the building into the outdoor elements.
