ISHPEMING – Project Newborn Rock’n’Read recently brought books to preschool children at Birchview Elementary School in Ishpeming Tuesday. Ishpeming High School Key Club members Kate Kariniemi and Tricia Jackson read to Ishpeming preschoolers Kerri Myers, daughter of Tom and Marge Myers; Nicole Kulju, daughter of Roger and Jackie Kulju; and Eric Dompierre, son of Dean and Jill Dompierre. Project Newborn is a literacy program that lets preschoolers choose a free book for themselves. It is sponsored by the Ishpeming, Negaunee, N.I.C.E. and Marquette school districts,

MUNISING – A twirling routine by majorettes will be featured during the Christmas concert to be presented Thursday night at 7:30 in the Munising High School auditorium. The senior band, directed by Ken Ericson, will present “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” (Johann Sabastian Bach), selections from “The Nutcracker Suite,” “It’s Beginning to Look Like Christmas,” “Parade of the Icicles,” “Yuletide Festival,” “White Christmas,” and “Sleigh Ride.” Four numbers by the junior band, also directed by Ericson, will make up the first part of the program. Then the girls’ glee club under the direction of Mrs. Paul Erickson, will sing several holiday songs. No admission will be charged.
