MARQUETTE – The puppet “Marq Moosie” has returned home after an eleven month long tour across eight states and nine libraries to promote children’s reading. Marq’s adventure began in Mountain View, California to the care of Marquette native Bobbi WeesenBaer, former Peter White Public Library librarian, with instructions that he be transferred to another library after two weeks. In honor of his return (and celebration of national book week), Peter White Public library hosted a program recounting his travels from California, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming, New York, Florida, and Tennessee for around 15 kids and their parents. Marq seemed to fit plenty of adventures in, from seeing the Grand Canyon, to watching the Green Bay Packer’s play against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Marq and his travel diary will be on display until the New Year, after which he will be flying off to Europe.

MUNISING – Adolph Stebler, predator investigator of the department of conservation, caught a three-footed coyote at the Cusino game refuge. Stebler had been watching the creature pass the scent of the trap six or seven times. On its last walk around, the coyote began to scrape away a divot near the scent with the outside of its left foot. When it was around six or seven inches away from the pit, it dug a little deeper, but did not want to approach the trap. The coyote backed away, returning to the trap only to be caught in it. The creature dragged the trap nearly 100 feet on its three legs, its right forefoot had been previously amputated (most likely by a trap) but had thoroughly healed over.
