SHINGLETON – The state Department of Natural Resources will be selling a lake side camp in the Grand Sable State Forest. The complex, which includes a main lodge, cook house, carpenter shop, generator plant, bunk house, and over 600 feet of sandy shoreline, has been owned by the state since it was purchased from the Steams Coal and Lumber Company in 1930. It has existed in many forms including a game area headquarters and a field educational facility for several universities. Officials at the DNR say that the site has not been used in 10 years, and they cannot afford to maintain it. Potential uses for the park include a private summer home to a snowmobile camp or a bed and breakfast.

MARQUETTE- Northern Michigan University’s “Committee for Victory in Vietnam” marched down N. Fourth, W. Michigan, N. Front Street and W. Kaye Ave in support of the U.S. military involvement overseas. The group’s leaders are composed of six freshmen who in several days gathered over 1,000 students under the common goal of boosting morale for dispatched soldiers. Leader Julian (Sandy) Ulmer from Grosse Pointe, MI voiced the group’s frustrations over “the minority of college students speaking for the majority- who back up government policy in Vietnam- and we thought it’s time we did something about it.” Looking ahead, the committee plans to enlist volunteers interested in donating blood for military forces and civilians in South Vietnam.

Starting at $3.23/week.
