Workshop to focus on artist’s text panels

MARQUETTE — A picture may be worth a thousand words, but sometimes, a few words can help describe a picture.

Galleries and art exhibits use descriptive text panels, sometimes called didactic labels, that provide information about an artist or an artwork to viewers, patrons, and prospective buyers. What if you are asked to supply a statement to accompany your work? In this workshop, led by DeVos Art Museum Director Emily Lanctot, artists will review the purpose of artist bios, artist statements and artwork statements.

Participants will practice creating a statement for one of their own works. The Lake Superior Art Association invites artists of all levels to this free workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Studio 1 of the Peter White Public Library. Bring a photo (on your phone or as a printout) of one of your works.

Starting at $3.23/week.
