ISHPEMING – For the fifth consecutive year the Elks Lodges of Negaunee, Marquette, and Ishpeming will have their Pumpkin Patch party Saturday. The party will be at the Ishpeming Elks Lodge at 597 Lakeshore drive from 1 to 4 p.m. This party is presented for the benefit of children with disability in the tri-city area. The members of the three lodges have constructed houses from refrigerator boxes. The houses are then painted, decorated, and arranged throughout the lodge to allow for trick-or-treating in a street-like setting. An Elk member sits inside each house and hands out candy to the children. Children of Elk families are also invited to attend. It is hoped, but not necessary, that children wear a Halloween costume. There is no admission charge.

GWINN – Children of the Gwinn Methodist Church will conduct the annual Halloween fund drive for UNICEF Friday afternoon, calling at homes throughout Gwinn and in New Swanzy, Fralick Heights and Austin Location. The UNICEF project this year is sponsored by the Christian social relations department of the church. In charge are Mrs. Gene Greene, chairman; Mrs. Ted Soyring and Mrs. William Hemmila. The children taking part will be identified by their collection cartons – half-pint milk containers bearing an orange and black label with the UNICEF symbol and the figure of a mother and child. An adult will accompany each group of children canvassing a pre-arranged area. Money collected is sent to UNICEF to be used in welfare programs for children.

Starting at $3.23/week.
