MARQUETTE – Little rain fell last month. The average temperature for September was 54 degrees, only one tenth of a degree below normal, according to climatological data released by the national station in Negaunee Township. The highest temperature for the month was 83 degrees on Sept. 4 and the lowest, 26 degrees on Sept. 23. There were three days when the temperature dipped below freezing. Total precipitation for the month was 3.6 inches, .48 inches below normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 2.09 inches on Sept. 6-7.

NEGAUNEE – The Negaunee Cooperative Nursery had opened its doors to 15 three and four-year-old children under the guidance of Mrs. Richard Annear. The nursery is in operation from October through May with two-hour sessions held three mornings each week. Primary object of nursery school is to aid youngsters in process of “growing up.” Under Mrs. Annear’s supervision, youngsters are guided, not directed. The nursery school is not held to give a formal education but to create an opportunity to stimulate interest, to explore, and to discover by choosing. Listed on the board of directors of the nursery school are Mrs. Neil Lynch, Mrs. John Pontti, Mrs. Donald Rice, Mrs. William Sarvela and Mrs. David West. Officers include Mrs. Pontti, president; Mrs. Robert Mertins, first vice president; Mrs. Donald Ryan, second vice president; Mrs. William Palm, secretary; and Mrs. Errol Moffet, treasurer.
