RSVP transportation program needs support
MARQUETTE — Marquette County seniors need your help. The Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Program is in need of volunteer drivers to take seniors to their medical appointments in the Marquette area.
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Transporters provide a vital links for senior clients to access needed medical care. Many of our clients do not have family or friends available, are unable to ride the bus due to scheduling challenges, or their frail conditions and many cannot afford the cost of a taxi.
RSVP volunteers provide free transportation to non-emergency medical appointments for isolated and frail seniors over the age of 60. These volunteers pick up seniors at their home and provide a helping hand to their car. The volunteer helps the client get to the doctor’s office, and waits until they are seen by the doctor. After the appointment, the client is taken to the pharmacy if needed, and then returned to his or her home.
We ask for your support of this project by sharing this information with the community. For more information, or to receive a volunteer application, please contact Lori Stephens-Brown, RSVP director, at lbrown@mqtco.org or 906-315-2607.
