Negaunee Public Library activities planned

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee Public Library will host a workshop on beginning genealogy, courtesy of the Marquette County Genealogical Society, at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Learn the basics of genealogy, terminology, what records to look for, and how to start your search for family history. All are invited to attend this free workshop; registration is appreciated.

The Negaunee Public Library is delighted to host bestselling author Sue Harrison at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14. Harrison will discuss her writing journey – from Yooper homemaker to international bestselling novelist, from frustration to joy to heartbreak and back to joy again. Her talk will include a question and answer period. This event is free to the public and all are welcome to attend. Snowbound Books will be on hand to sell copies of some of Sue’s novels, including the children’s book “Rescuing Crash the Good Dog” and the historical novel “The Midwife’s Touch.” Harrison is happy to sign new purchases or books from any attendee’s personal collection, for free.

The library’s own Leo Siren will conduct a horror writing workshop from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 18, in the library’s Reading Room. Aspiring writers ages 13 years and up are invited to learn about the craft of storytime from Siren, who has more than 20 years of writing experience. Participants can work on current projects, find inspiration at the workshop, and critique each other’s works in a friendly environment. This event is free.

The Friends of the Negaunee Public Library will hold a book sale from 1-4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, in the Reading Room of the Negaunee Public Library. All sales are by donation.

The “Queen of Pentacles” will be offering informal tarot readings from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Negaunee Public Library. The readings will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, by a practitioner with 8+ years of experience. These tarot readings are for fun and entertainment purposes only.

The Negaunee Public Library is supporting aspiring authors with a “Preptober party” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28. There will be snacks, goodies and assistance for helping to prepare for Novel Quest in November. Novel Quest is a free motivational challenge to writers to complete their novel-writing-or-editing goal in 30 days in November.

The library is hosting a Halloween party, planned by the Junior Teen Advisory Group, from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29. There will be fun for all ages, including nut-free snacks, a haunted house, games and more. All participants should be sure to stop by the circulation desk to trick-or-treat and there will be a costume contest.
