Negaunee firefighters battle brush fire
NEGAUNEE — At about 6:48 p.m. Sunday, the Negaunee City Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire on Rolling Mill Road near Miller Road.
Upon arriving on scene, crews were able to locate a brush fire in the cattails of a swamp on the south side of Rolling Mill Road, just west of Miller Road. An area the approximate size of half of a football field had caught on fire and burned, with some small pockets of fire left over.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire, using water that was transported by truck as well as water that was drafted from a nearby creek.
The Negaunee City Fire Department reminds the community that with the recent warm temperatures, strong winds and lack of significant rainfall, there is still a potential for brush fires in the Upper Peninsula.
Marquette County Central Dispatch gave assistance to firefighters, a press release states.
