HANCOCK — The Keweenaw Community Foundation has announced the establishment of the Copper Country Angel Mission Endowment Fund (https://bit.ly/3KjTC6K), created through a generous donation from a longtime supporter. This fund will ensure that the Copper Country Angel Mission can continue its mission of serving local families in need with dignity, compassion and hope.

A mission rooted in community

More than 20 years ago, CCAM began in the garage of lay pastor Rebecca Koivu of the Community Church in Calumet, with a small group of volunteers who wanted to help their neighbors overcome the challenges of poverty. What started as New Beginnings Angel Mission has since grown into an independent 501(c)(3) organization, supported by local churches, businesses, organizations and individuals. Today, CCAM serves hundreds of families each month through programs that address basic needs and lift burdens for those living paycheck to paycheck.

Programs That Make a Difference

CCAM offers vital services, including:

�–� Free Store – Providing clothing and household goods at no cost.

�–� Food Pantry – Feeding more than 250 people each month.

�–� Client Assistance – Helping with rent, utilities, and transportation for medical care.

�–� Seasonal Programs – From back-to-school supplies (CCAM distributed over 400 backpacks in 2025) to winter coats and holiday gifts, CCAM ensures that children and families have what they need to thrive.

“This fall we’re excited to continue our seasonal programs that mean so much to families,” said Sherry Middlemis-Brown, board member of Copper Country Angel Mission. “Coat the Copper Country will run from October through late winter, ensuring everyone has the outerwear they need for our cold climate. We’ll also offer our Angel Tree program, which matches sponsors with children to provide Christmas gifts. Registration for both children and sponsors begins in early November, with gifts distributed before the holidays”
