HANCOCK – Five residents could face disorderly conduct charges after stripping and dancing to accordion music in the early morning hours at a laundromat. Hancock police were called to the Washtub Laundromat just after 3 a.m. Saturday to investigate a call claiming a nude man was playing an accordion as a woman stripped. The responding officers found the man playing the accordion while two men in undershorts and two women in bras and underpants danced, Chief Mike Beaudoin said. The accordion player was naked as he played for his friends, Beaudoin said. As the officers entered the building, the women ran into the bathroom and closed the door. The three men tried to dress. The officers said the quintet had come to the laundromat to wash clothes and listen to accordion music at the same time. “I can’t play the accordion unless I am completely nude,” officers quoted the musician saying as he put his clothes back on. The five, ranging in age from 19 to 24, were not identified pending a report to Houghton County Prosecutor Doug Edwards. The five could face disorderly person charges, Beaudoin said.

This is part of a safety campaign being conducted throughout the state to make driving safer and to reduce accidents. Trooper Ralph Sheahan of the safety division of the state police, will give a course on safety problems and safe driving practices. Other instructors will be Lieutenant Gray, who is in charge of transportation for the CCC camps, and Mr. Hubbard, of Flint. Following the course a test will be given each student and those failing to pass will not be allowed to drive CCC camp trucks.
