MARQUETTE — The Michigan State Police have announced the retirement of Capt. Darren Green, commander of the Eighth District, after 25 years of distinguished service to the department and the people of Michigan.

Green has led MSP field services for the Eighth District, which encompasses the entire Upper Peninsula, since August 2023. Green began his career with the MSP as a member of the 119th Trooper Recruit School, which began on Sept. 17, 2000. He served in multiple assignments throughout the state, with the majority of his career spent in MSP’s First District.

Throughout his 25 years with the department, Green held numerous positions of increasing responsibility, including trooper, sergeant, detective sergeant, lieutenant, first lieutenant and captain.

Reflecting on his time in the Upper Peninsula, Green noted, “It was an honor to have served the past two years in the Upper Peninsula. Some of the finest people I’ve ever met in my career were living and working in the Upper Peninsula.”

Under Green’s leadership, the district upheld a strong commitment to delivering the highest quality law enforcement and public safety services, encouraging meaningful community engagement, and maintaining professionalism across one of the state’s most unique and geographically vast regions. The district covers a land area of over 16,000 square miles, 15 counties, 7 posts, and 1 outpost, making it the largest area, with the most counties and the highest number of posts of any MSP district.

It is also the only MSP district that spans two time zones.
