MARQUETTE — The Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education is seeking community feedback on a plan to update the district’s facilities, according to a MAPS press release.
Last year, the state of Michigan conducted an infrastructure study on MAPS and other school districts in the state; this study identified more than $100 million of critical infrastructure and building system needs for the district, findings which were echoed in the district’s own facilities study. Before moving forward, the district needs to gather feedback from the community and taxpayers to form a plan to address these critical facilities needs.
In September, an eight-page survey will be delivered to MAPS residents. The survey will provide residents with information about current district challenges and potential solutions to address these challenges.
To learn more about MAPS’s current challenges and/or how to take the survey, the district is hosting two community information sessions on Monday, Sept. 22 and Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Marquette Senior High School Little Theatre. No RSVP is required to attend and this opportunity is open to all.
To collect feedback, the district is working with School Perceptions LLC, an independent data firm with expertise in conducting school district surveys. Residents can complete the paper survey and mail it back to School Perceptions in the postage-paid envelope provided or log on to the website listed on the paper survey, enter the unique access code provided on the survey and take the survey online. Responses remain anonymous and overall results will be shared at the school board meeting in October.
To get additional survey copies for members of your household, please email mapsinfo@mapsnet.org or call the district office at 906-225-4200. The survey is open until Oct.3. Results of the survey will be reported at the school board meeting on Oct. 13 and will be available on the district’s website.
More information is also on the district’s website at https://www.mapsnet.org/o/maps/page/facilities- planning. Questions can be directed to mapsinfo@mapsnet.org or 906-225-4200.
