MARQUETTE — Beginning Tuesday, traffic signals will be installed or changed at four locations in Marquette. New signals will be installed on westbound U.S. Highway 41 at the Kmart entrance and on eastbound U.S. 41 at the Wal-Mart entrance, the state Department of Transportation said. The signal at the intersection of Washington and Front streets in Marquette will be modified to add a left-turn arrow. The signal at the intersection of U.S. 41 and M-28 in Harvey will be replaced. Motorists should expect brief lane closures and traffic stoppages. Work is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 8.

ESCANABA — Butter markers of the upper peninsula are invited to take part in the butter scoring contest. Samples of butter are to be sent to E.R. Horwood, in care of the Delta Milk Producers association in Escanaba, to arrive not later than Wednesday, Butter makers should include their own score of the butter with the sample. Simon Hagedorn, state inspector from the bureau of dairying, will have charge of the scoring contest. Butter makers and creamery owners and managers should be present to take part in this program.
