Labor Day gathering planned
NEGAUNEE — The Marquette Alger Community Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the Upper Peninsula Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, invite you and your organization to participate in the 36th Annual Labor Day Festival. The event will be held in Negaunee on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1.
The festival will begin at 11 a.m. with a parade beginning at Tobin and Iron streets before looping back along Rail Street to the park. The theme of this year’s parade is “It’s Better in a Union.” Call Tony Ghiringhelli 906-236-3889 for details.
After the parade, there will be a picnic and rally from noon-4 p.m. at the Jim Thomas Pavilion and Jackson Mine Park located at 199 Tobin St., in Negaunee. The picnic lunch will include a choice of a pasty or 2 hot dogs and chips, desert and pop, milk or water.
Adult beverages will be sold, along with additional pop and water. The rally will begin at 1 p.m. and includes music, speeches from union officials and other family activities.
