Proof: The Art and Science of Certainty by Adam Kucharski.
Author Kucharski is a mathematician and professor who works in London, studying the outbreaks of infectious disease. However, he is also capable of writing compelling prose. In this entertaining guide, the author gives a wide-ranging account of how we determine what is true, how truth is proven, and how to navigate that search. This involves a review of mathematics, science, politics, philosophy, and economics. Arriving at truth also involves navigating human biases, recognizing errors in others and ourselves, the weighing of evidence, and sometimes embracing that not all is certain. This book is a wide-ranging study on separating facts from fiction, truth from lies, and evidence from presumptions.
