Pioneer Days at Negaunee Public Library features a half dozen local authors

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee Public Library will hold a book-signing session for several regional authors from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, as part of Pioneer Days. Authors include newcomers R. Aveen (young adult fantasy) and Lisa Dorvinen (children’s books), Negaunee native Adam Dompierre (mystery), local poet Kathleen Heideman, historian Tyler Tichelaar and Terri Martin, who has written a variety of books. These authors will have their books for sale at this event. Admission to the library is always free for everyone.

Aveen, Dorvinen, Dompierre, Tichelaar, and Martin are all members of the Upper Peninsula Publishers & Authors Association. The UPPAA provides educational programming and events year-round both in-person and via Zoom. Some of their flagship programs include the youth initiatives such as the Dandelion Cottage Short Story Contest and the Young Writers Storytelling Workshop. For adults, the U.P. Notable Books Club provides a monthly opportunity to meet authors over zoom and ask them about their stories and their writing process. The U.P. Reader provides an outlet for both youth and adult writers to showcase their works which typically include poetry, short stories, memoir, and humor, among several genres.
