Higher Love planning music fest

REPUBLIC — For the third consecutive year this summer, the Higher Love Cannabis Co. is sponsoring a three-day music festival in the West End.
Known as the Summer Jubilee, the gathering started out as an employee appreciation event several years ago, said Taylor Busch-Anderson, company marketing director. Summer Jubilee is scheduled for July 11-13 at the Pine Grove Bar in Republic.
“It’s a three-day (free) music festival,” Busch-Anderson said. “We partner with the Pine Grove Bar … and it’s great.”
Busch-Anderson said the festival takes over an adjacent street and nearby field where a stage is set up and people can listen to music while enjoying adult beverages. She underscores, however, that the festival is not a cannabis party.
“It is not a consumption event,” she said. Higher Love has nine retail stores in the Upper Peninsula that employ 200 of what is known in the business as bud tenders.
Music for the event will include top acts from around the Great Lakes basin including including Pajamas, Another One, Chicken Wire Empire and Jeff Winard Polka. From bluegrass to funk, rock to polka, the plan is to have something for everyone.
Food trucks will be on-site all weekend serving up eats with Manny Mags bringing the fine Mexican chow, Smokler’s BBQ swinging by on Saturday and Sunday and The Kut Food Truck making an appearance with gyros and breakfast delights.
Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with a FlowStar class at the Northern Lights Campground. This dance class blends movement and light for a unique festival experience with all skill levels welcome.
Afterwards, guests are invited to explore the mystical between 2-6 p.m. with complimentary henna tattoos from Behennaed and tarot readings courtesy of Manipura Sun. More than 20 industry vendors will be on-site all weekend.
On Friday and Saturday nights, fireworks displays are planned at 11 p.m.
