Enviro group changes name

MARQUETTE — For Love of Water, the Great Lakes law and policy center based in Traverse City has announced that it has changed its name to Flow Water Advocates.

Founded in 2011, Flow Water Advocates is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Flow team works through the courts, governments, agencies and public advocacy to defend all of the waters of the Great Lakes Basin from threats, including the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac, groundwater and agricultural contamination, withdrawals and diversions, climate change, aging infrastructure, and pollution.

With a strong foundation in the public trust doctrine, Flow protects the people’s rights to enjoy, navigate, use, and be sustained by our shared water resources, and holds governments accountable for protecting them.

“Our new name is a more explicit expression of who we’ve always been, and one that will forge new connections and bring clarity,” said Liz Kirkwood, executive director of Flow Water Advocates. “And we’ll continue to be known colloquially as ‘Flow’ as we’ve always been. But the best thing about our new name is the invitation it extends to all friends of the Great Lakes: anyone and everyone can be a water advocate.”

Starting at $3.23/week.
