MARQUETTE – A diamond and opal gold pin designed by Thomas Kemp and Linda Wilson of Wattsson & Wattsson Jewelers Inc. won the new “Spectral Award” at the Michigan Jewelers Association 7th Annual Design Competition. The award is sponsored by Spectral Gems of Birmingham. The handcrafted pin was made of 14K white and 18K yellow gold, with one fancy-cut Australian opal, three brilliant-cut diamonds, and one marquise-cut diamond.

MARQUETTE – Construction of a new theater on Washington Street immediately west of the Masonic building will be started today by Delft Theaters Inc., it was announced Saturday by Hugh S. Gallup, general manager of the organization. The general contract for the new building, which will be the most modern theater in the Upper Peninsula, has been given to William G. Miller of Marquette, who will break ground this morning. It is expected that the theater will be ready for operation about October 1st.
