ISLE ROYALE – The last five of 11 moose, trapped on Isle Royale during the winter, were landed without incident on the mainland at Houghton Wednesday night and were immediately transferred from the conservation patrol boat to trucks and started on their way to the Cusino game refuge near Munising. Six moose were brought to Houghton on the patrol boat early Sunday morning. Four were transported to the Cusino refuge and the others taken to the Detroit zoo. All animals arrived at their destination in good condition. The crating of the moose on Isle Royale was described by Ben East as follows: “Crating wild moose, a problem to which state conservation department game men have given no small amount of thought in recent weeks, is filled with a great deal more hard work than excitement, thrills, or danger.”
