LAKE LINDEN — Despite a light turnout, voters in Lake Linden and the Lake Linden – Hubbell School District approved millage renewals and a bond request Tuesday.

It was election day in Michigan Tuesday, and while a variety of issues and races took place throughout the state, locally, only voters in the Village of Lake Linden and the Lake Linden School District went to the polls. As was to be expected in a spring, off-year election, voter turn out was light with less than one-in-four registered voters taking part.

In the Village, residents approved a heavy equipment millage renewal. The proposal asked for a continuation of 1.75 mills ($1.75 per $1,000) for an additional five years, beginning with the 2025 tax year. The millage will raise nearly $31,000 for the purchase and upgrade of heavy equipment. The renewal passed overwhemingly, 184-34.

Voters in the Lake Linden – Hubbell School District, which includes portions of Calumet Township, Schoolcraft Township, Torch Lake Township and Sherman Township, voters approved an operating millage renewal of 20.7543 mills for three years. The measure passed easily 651 yes to 169 no.

The second measure on the ballot was a proposed bond for remodeling, construction, furnishing and equipping school facilities, purchasing busses and improving sites.The amount of the bond is not to exceed $6.5 million. The bond issue passed by a margin of 556-257.

Lake Linden – Hubbell Superintendent Brad Codere said he appreciates the support of voters. “”We are grateful for the incredible support of our community once again. We can now put the needed investments into our facilities to provide our students and staff the tools and environment necessary to continue to be successful.”
