Arts, crafts to be offered at MooseWood

MARQUETTE — The MooseWood Nature Center is introducing a new members-only series giving participants the opportunity to explore their inner artist.

“Art at MooseWood” provides small-group instruction in creative beginner art projects. Have you ever wanted to dabble in pottery, develop your nature photography skills, or try your hand at watercolor? Here’s your chance.

Sessions will begin in May and will take place at the nature center in Marquette, often outside regular open hours. Necessary materials will be provided for the program fee. Some classes meet once and others require multiple sessions to complete projects. Prior registration and Center membership are required to participate, and sessions have very limited enrollment to facilitate individualized instruction.

Artists, crafters, creators and makers wanted:

Looking for creators of all kinds to offer class or workshop instruction as a part of the “Art at MooseWood” program series. If you are interested in participating or would like more info, please contact Tiffany, at moosewoodnc@gmail.com.

Pottery 101: Hand-building using pinch and coil techniques will be held at 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays, May 13 and 20. Ages 12-adult, $20 per person for both sessions. This is a members-only program. Memberships can be purchased online at www.moosewood.org.

This two-session program introduces participants to working with stoneware clay, the most common form used in functional dinnerware. In the first session we learn about the ceramic process and safe handling of clay, and use the ancient forming skills of pinching and coiling to make small bowls. The objects produced need to be dried and fired to turn them into ceramic and ready for glazing. In the second session we decorate our creations with glazes that add color, texture, and beauty to our pieces. These will once again be fired in a kiln to complete the process. Participants will be able to pick up their finished pieces at their convenience.

Starting at $3.23/week.
