MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library, in cooperation with the Women’s Center, is presenting a series of three discussions in celebration of Women’s History Month. “Promises to Keep,” on Thursday, focuses on the importance of role models for young people. Discussion leaders include: Jean Choate, Pam Christensen, Sharon Green, Cynthia Nyquist, Michaeleen O’Sullivan, and Neena Weyer-Ittner. “Coloring Outside the Lines,” March 23, focuses on women in non-traditional pursuits. Discussion leaders include: Pam Agee, Marla Brady, Dr. Cheryl Davison, Kelly December, Ruth Hodges, Kathryn Polansky, Frances Porter, and Judy Vonck. “Creating a New Pattern,” March 20, focuses on the 75th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granting women the right to vote. Discussion leaders include: Katherine Payant, Karlyn Rapport, Moira Reynolds, Glenda Robinson, and Leigh Wall. All programs will be held in the Peter White Public Library auditorium from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

MARQUETTE — Thirty-nine guests were registered last Sunday afternoon at the annual Awards Presentation Tea given by United Service Organizations in the club rooms on Front St. Guests were greeted by the Rev. Glen Weber, president of the local USO; Dr. T.T. Mason, vice-president; Mrs. Burt Carlson, secretary; Fred Donckers, treasurer; Peter Murk, USO director; and Mrs. Vernon Bleckiner, assistant director. Mel Goodweather, legal officer at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, gave an illustrated talk describing the personnel facilities, financial expenditures and official responsibilities at the Base. Father Weber addressed the group on the history and purpose of USO here, and discussed the role of the senior volunteer, emphasizing the gratitude of the staff. Mrs. Mary Pace and Mrs. Millie Yoder were given gold pins in recognition of over 100 hours of volunteer service. Col. Myron Piggott, director of personnel service at Sawyer, was an official host. Preparations for the tea were made by Mrs. Blekiner, assisted by Mrs. Elmer Carlson and Mrs. Al Savola, members of the USO boards of directors.
