NEA’s Big Read on tap

MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library has announced its participation in the 2025 NEA Big Read, funded by a grant from the NEA/Arts Midwest.

This year’s featured selection is, “Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?” a graphic memoir by renowned cartoonist Roz Chast. This engaging and poignant book will be the focal point of PWPL’s month-long programming series, offering a variety of events that explore themes of aging, caregiving, family dynamics, and community.

“Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?” follows Chast’s personal journey as she navigates the complex, often difficult experience of caring for her aging parents. Through her signature visual style, Chast blends humor with deep emotional insight to address universal struggles that resonate with many. Free copies of the graphic memoir will be available to patrons (while supplies last) starting in late February, allowing community members to engage with this impactful work.

Throughout March, PWPL will host an exciting lineup of events, including creative writing workshops, interactive art exhibits, keynote addresses, films, and an interactive, moderated discussion with Roz Chast herself on March 10. These events are designed to spark thoughtful conversations about the people who make up our community and offer valuable insights on aging, caregiving, and human connection.

Join us in exploring the powerful themes of “Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?” during the month of March, and be part of the conversation that brings our community together.
