NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee City Council awarded the contracts to repair water mains and to update city ordinances during a special meeting Tuesday. CCMS Associates of Sault Ste. Marie was the lowest of seven bidders for dive water main repair projects involving thousands of feet of pipe damaged by last winter’s record breaking cold weather, said Scott Erbisch, Negaunee grants planner. The cost of the projects are covered by state and federal disaster relief funds awarded to the city because of the freeze.

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will host the Madison Gem and Mineral Society of Madison, Wis., on a field trip Sept. 5. Other Upper Peninsula clubs and interested persons are invited to participate. Overnight camping facilities will be available at Fort Wilkins State park for club members and guests who have trailers or tents. The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club hopes that members and guests will find specimens of native copper, datolite, phrenite, and agate for their collections or cutting materials for lapidary work.
