MARQUETTE — The Peter White Library Board has approved a contract with Sundberg, Carlson and Associates Inc. for expansion and renovation of the library. Also involved in the planning and design will be Frye Gillan Milinaro Architects Ltd. Of Chicago. The firms will meet with library staff, building committee members, board members, and the public to identify needs for the library’s departments and services in a series of interviews beginning today through Friday. A public session with the architects is set for 7 pm Thursday in the South Heritage Room of the library.

NATIONAL FORESTS — The five national-forest purchase units of Michigan were enlarged to the extent of 29,290 acres as a result of the largest forest land deal ever approved in the history of the north, central region, comprising 450,000 acres and involving the payment of $933,289 to 687 owners in the lake states. This brings the total land acquired in the region to date under the acquisition program up to nearly three million acres.
