RESEARCH VESSEL EDWIN LINK — The Edmund Fitzgerald has been Tom Farnquist’s passion since he heard the first radio reports of its fatal plunge to the bottom of Lake Superior. IRONWOOD — Independence Day came a few days early for “Patrick Henry” this year. This was the name given to the injured bald eagle found and captured in the Ottawa National Forest near Kenton on May 7th. The eagle was given its liberty on June 30, near the place where it was captured, and is now back in its natural haunts along the East Branch of the Ontonagon River. The bird apparently had been shot. The wound rendered the bird flightless and it was discovered on the ground where it could not find food for several days. It was brought to Ironwood, where it was kept and cared for by G.W. Irvine, biologist for the Ottawa National Forest.
